Welcome to another week of Football Friday, our College Football Tailgate Party and Linky!  I’m one of your co-hosts for this weekly event and am so excited to be taking part in it.  Last week, I co-hosted over at Creative Cynchronicity, but I’ll be alternating each week between that and Gagen Girls.  Be sure to join us every week for Football Friday: ideas for crafts, recipes, parties, and more all related to College Football!!!

sscookies2text So last time over on Creative Cynchronicity, I shared these delicious sweet and salty chocolate chip cookies, perfect for an afternoon of noshing while watching the game.  This week, I decided to share a little favor envelope that you could use to hold one of the cookies and hand them out as take home gifts to each of your football viewing guests.  This envelope would also work well for your pigskin party invitations.   These are so simple to make and take only a couple minutes for each one.  You could personalize them further by using your team’s colors or adding team logos to the main part of the envelope.

The materials I’m using are:  a piece of cardstock or thick paper for the petal card/envelope (I chose a neutral color), a scrap of brown paper, a scrap of yellow (you could do white here instead) paper, a scrap of yellow ribbon (again, you might prefer to use white), a pair of scissors, and some glue (a glue stick works well).  You’ll also need a hole punch or a paper piercing tool (what I like to refer to as my pokey stabby tool).

(I apologize for the not so great pictures.  I’m in San Diego for the month of September so I’m working in a space that’s not my own and on a crazy schedule!  I think you can get the idea of how cute these are though.)

You need to start with one of these “petal” cards.  Mirkwood Designs (a favorite site where I find all kinds of fantastic templates to use in my crafting) has a few different patterns for these but this square one is similar to the one I’m using.  You’re going to need the basic envelope shape, a football cut out of the brown paper, and a small strip cut from the yellow or white.

Next you need to line up the football on the closed envelope to figure out where you’re going to put the holes for the lacing.  I just eyeballed it but you can certainly mark it with a pencil if you’d prefer.

football3Glue the yellow or white strip down the middle of the football.  Then lay the football on top of the closed envelope and start lacing your ribbon through, making sure to go through the holes on both the football and the envelope flaps.  I found it easiest to get it all laced up and then open one of the other flaps (one without holes and lacing in it) to slip the cookie(s) in.  You could also make a cute little tag with each person’s name on it to tie in with the bow.  Maybe a football helmet?
