Simple Woman’s Daybook September 2023

I’ve been participating in the Simple Woman’s Daybook for quite a few years now, off and on. It’s a wonderful reflective practice and through it, a lovely view into snippets of my life in the past. If you are inspired to create your own Simple Woman’s Daybook, please share the link in the comments below so I can come and visit.

Looking out my window…

It may be September but we are currently under an extreme heat warning. It’s sunny and beautiful though and that is a most welcome sight after a few overcast, drizzly days.

I am thinking…

About how much fun we had yesterday hanging out with family that we hadn’t seen in ages. My grand niece and grand nephew are GROWING like crazy!

I am thankful…

That this is a long weekend. I need a few days off to rest and recharge. On Saturday we’re having Walter’s family birthday party which will be lots of fun, but the rest of the weekend I am peacing out.

One of my favorite things…

This is my FAVORITE eye cream that I have ever tried. It has made such a huge difference with the dry skin under my eyes.

I am creating…

I have really been enjoying embroidery. It’s been a minute since I did any but then I saw these kits that had the stitching on sheer fabric and thought it was such a pretty idea. Not only that, but these flowers are daisies. They were my mom’s favorite flowers and I love being reminded of her every time I see them.

Here are where I found the kits. The next one I’m working on is of dandelions. Then, I’m going to order some more of the ones below to give as Christmas gifts.

I am wearing…

My standard uniform – yoga pants and a t-shirt. Here are a few of my favorite shirts.

I am reading …

I just finished reading The In Between by Hadley Vlahos and Hang the Moon by Jeannette Walls. I highly recommend both. The In Between is written by a hospice nurse about her experiences. If you have any anxiety about death, you need to read this book. Hang the Moon is a novel and I have to say, it’s not the type that I usually read. But I really came to love the main character and her example of being a strong, resilient woman as she handles the twists and turns in her life and takes care of her “family”. I’m currently reading Refugee by Alan Gratz. It’s a young adult novel and I’ve heard great reviews of it. It takes place in three different timelines with three kids searching for refuge from dangerous situations..

I am watching…

The Chelsea Detective on AcornTV. I love British mysteries and this is one of my favorites. It has just returned for a new season. It’s a typical British cozy mystery/police procedural.

I am listening to…

ABBA, Laura Branigan, and Heart. Apparently, I’m feeling nostalgic.

I am hoping…

that my grandson has a great first day of grade one next week, that my daughter (a teacher) and son in law (a before/after school supervisor) have a great start to their new years as well.

I am learning…

about Mary, the mother of Jesus. This is my final course for my Certificate in Marian Studies at the University of Dayton.

If you’re Catholic (or not Catholic but interested in learning more), I can highly recommend the online courses there. I’ve been taking them for 3 years now and they are always incredibly interesting and enlightening.

In my kitchen…

These apple pie cinnamon rolls are the perfect fall treat!

This week’s menu includes:

More fun fall ideas…

We have tons of fantastic autumn ideas saved here on Pinterest.

A Favorite Quote…

“The best part of life is not just surviving, but thriving with passion and compassion and humour and style and generosity and kindness.”  Maya Angelou

A moment from my day…

Having a sleepover with one of my sweet boys…

Post Script…

The end of summer is always somewhat bittersweet. I’ll miss the warm days in the sun and the slower pace of living. But, as we transition to a new season, there is always something to look forward to.

  • Those crisp autumn days where the air is cool and refreshing.
  • Apple and pumpkin everything!
  • The trees becoming a work of art as the leaves change from green to glorious shades of red, yellow, and orange
  • That feeling of crunchy leaves beneath your feet as you take a brisk walk on a fall day
  • Gathering together as family for a festive meal
  • The coziness of sitting by the fireplace, wrapped in a warm throw, sipping hot apple cider and reading a good book
