Creative Holiday Gift Wrapping Ideas

Some people talk about the trials of Christmas gift shopping, but if you ask me, the trickiest part of the holidays is gift wrapping. When I sit down to wrap gifts, sometimes it feels like it’s a never-ending chore. Certainly, things like turning on some peppy Christmas music or getting together with a friend to wrap your presents can be great ways to make it more fun, but I also find that creative holiday gift wrapping ideas like these can make a difference.

We have scoured the internet and rounded up some of our favorite creative gift wrapping ideas here. Some ideas are a little more time-consuming, which means that I would like only use them for a gift here or there – something that I want to stand out. However, some tips are quick, easy, and can add a special touch to everything you wrap.

Some simple tips that I use:

  • Add candy canes (taped on or tied to ribbon on gift). Place two of them to form a heart shape.
  • Tie on some jingle bells.
  • Pick a coordinating wrapping paper for each person – these look beautiful when piled up together under the tree but it’s such an easy way to add interest to the packages. Plus, you don’t even need tags because you can tell just by looking at the paper whose gift is whose.
  • Use plain white paper (white shelf paper or butcher paper works and can often be quite inexpensive) or plain Kraft paper (another inexpensive option). This gives you a clean slate. You can doodle on some of the gifts, add simple red and green bows or some bakers’ twine (for an old fashioned and simple Christmas vibe).
  • Use some of that plain paper and do some simple finger painting or for smaller pieces, try rubber band painting (this is a great way to get the kids involved too). Potato painting, dip a fork into paint and make designs with it, sponge painting, or just making random strokes with a paint brush all work well – just use red and green paints and boom! Instant festive paper.
  • Add stickers to plain paper – round stickers for a polka dot effect are really cute.
  • Make use of wrapping paper scraps to cut strips and tape or glue them onto the wrapped package to add interest.
  • Get or make an ornament and use it as a gift topper.
  • Go to the dollar store and grab some Christmas flowers and foliage. Simply tape or tie that onto the package.
