iPad Apps Reviews 13: Games (Yay!)

A 13 Part Series on Apps for Your iPad from GagenGirls.com

Last day of apps reviews!  And I saved the best for last – Games!  If you’re like me, you will waste hours of your life on these games.  Which, on the one hand, is a little bit sad.  But also, a little bit awesome?  (For the record, I’ve narrowed down the games I’m talking about – some of the ones I left out are just like Solitaire and junk.  I’m only going to talk about the best of the best!)

13. Games: Candy Crush Saga, Dumb Ways to Die, and Minion Rush

If you’re not already addicted to Candy Crush Saga on Facebook, then hold on to your horses – you’re about to hate your life.  This is the most frustrating, aggravating, upsettingly addictive game you’ll ever play.  Basically, you just switch candies to get a row of three same-coloured candies (or there are other “special” candies you can switch that…well they essentially just blow stuff up and are awesome).  But there’s a task for each level – sometimes it’s just to get a minimum score, sometimes they’re timed, or there will be cherries that you have to get through the candy to drop out of the bottom.  Or, the most frustrating rounds (in my humble opinion)- the jelly rounds.  Ugh.  You have to switch the candies to break them through the jelly in which they are encased.  And it’s awful.  But I can’t stop. (For the record, I’m almost at level 200.  Don’t let the picture below scare you – it’ll take you awhile to reach that level of Hell.) … Enjoy!

You might have seen the video for Dumb Ways to Die – it originated as a public service announcement by Metro Trains in Melbourne, Australia, and then went viral on the internet.  The video showcases a bunch of cute characters doing really stupid things – and now, with the iPad game, those characters’s lives are in your hands!  It’s a fast-paced, silly little game that can provide a few minutes of fun if that’s all you have time for.  Love it.

Despicable Me is one of the best movies that has come out in a long, long time (and it’s sequel doesn’t disappoint at all!).  And arguably one of the best parts of that franchise is the adorableness that is the Minions.  And so they came out with Minion Rush.  You play as a Minion, trying to be the best little despicable thing out there as you run through a series of tracks and dodge obstacles.  It’s fast-paced and takes awhile to get a hang of (at least for me – my first week or two playing that game was embarrassing, but now I have the highest score out of my friends), but it’s so fun!  I love the power-ups – there’s the freeze ray, the banana vacuum, the rocket, the fluffy unicorn (IT’S SO FLUFFY!), and my favorite – the Mega Minion, who crushes everything in his path!  Muahaha!
