Halloween Ghost Cupcakes

FAQs
Can I make these cupcakes ahead of time?
Yes. They use premade cupcakes but if you’re making your own, you can definitely bake them and make the ghosts a day ahead of time. Store cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature and keep the chocolate ghosts in a cool, dry place. Assemble just before serving.
Can I use store-bought frosting?
Definitely. While homemade frosting gives the best flavor, canned frosting works if you’re short on time. Tint with food coloring as directed.
What if I don’t have an edible marker for the ghosts?
You can use melted dark chocolate, black icing, or even small candy pieces for the eyes and mouth.
How do I keep the chocolate ghosts from breaking?
Make them a little thicker when shaping and let them cool completely before handling. Use a thin spatula to lift them from the parchment paper.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

Main Ingredients:
- 12 premade chocolate cupcakes
- ¼ cup white chocolate melting wafers
- Candy eye balls
- Black edible marker
Frosting Ingredients:
- 1 stick unsalted butter (room temp)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 Tbsp heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Red food coloring gel
- Yellow food coloring gel

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Make the frosting by adding the butter to a large mixing bowl and mix on medium speed for 1-2 minutes. Reduce the speed to low and slowly add in the powdered sugar.

Pause to scrape the bowl, add in the heavy cream and vanilla. Continue to mix on medium-high speed until a fluffy frosting has formed. (About 1 minute)

Slowly add in a few drops of red and yellow food gel and mix by hand to incorporate. Add more gel coloring until your desired shade of orange is achieved.

In a small microwavable bowl, melt the chocolate wafers according to the package.

Spoon about a teaspoon of chocolate on the baking sheet. Using the back side of a spoon press into the chocolate and swoop down to make a curved line. (See picture above).

Repeat to make 12 ghosts, place on the candy eyes and allow to cool and set.

Use the black edible markers to add mouths to each of the ghosts.

Assemble the cupcakes by piping the frosting and pressing a ghost in the center.
Tips for Success
- Use a piping bag with a large round tip to give your frosting a full, fluffy base for the chocolate ghosts.
- If the melted white chocolate is too runny, let it sit for a minute before shaping the ghosts.
- Make the chocolate ghosts a day ahead and store them in an airtight container until ready to use.
These Halloween Ghost Cupcakes are a festive way to bring a little spooky charm to your holiday table without spending hours in the kitchen. Whether you’re baking with kids, prepping for a classroom party, or hosting a haunted house gathering, these cupcakes are sure to disappear quickly.
